In the startup section, you can opt to open one or more specific pages. You can also set the same websites to open when you launch Edge as you had in IE. Here, you can turn certain buttons on or off to determine if they appear on the toolbar. To modify the toolbar, choose Appearance and then go to the Customize toolbar section. Go into Edge Settings by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of your window. You can also tell Edge to use some of the functions of IE to make it feel more familiar. In the Programs window, select Microsoft Edge and then click Set this program as default.

If you’re still using Windows 8.1 or 7, go to Control Pane, then Default Programs and Set your default programs. Scroll down to Web browser where you’ll see Internet Explorer and click it to open a menu with your options. You’ll see a list of all of the current default apps. If you’re running Windows 10, type “default apps” into the search bar at the bottom of your screen. Now you’re ready to select Edge as your default browser. Select it and then click Open and your files will be imported into Edge. Click Import from a file and then navigate to the folder you made in the previous step. In Edge, click on the Favorites icon and then choose Favorites from the menu to see the Import favorites button. Now you’re ready to work in the Edge window. (Don’t bother with Feeds or Cookies these cannot be imported to Edge.) Select your Favorites folder or multiple folders if you’ve organized them into separate folders. Choose Export to a file and you will see a pop-up window where you can check Favorites.

Click on the star icon at the top of your window and then the dropdown arrow next to Add to favorites.

You can export your Favorites (websites you’ve bookmarked) from Internet Explorer. Drag the IE window all the way to the left until it snaps into place. You might want to snap the two browser windows next to each other so you can have them visible at the same time. Make sure you’ve downloaded Edge before starting the process because you’ll need to navigate between the two browsers. There are several steps you can take to make the transition almost painless. So your best choice of new browser will likely be Edge because it’s made by Microsoft and offers some compatibility with its predecessor, Internet Explorer.
